Lodestar are specialists in location recording, production and engineering of classical music in Brisbane. Lodestar specialises in high quality audio recordings and engineering of classical music, is owned and operated by its two directors, David Spearritt and David
Starr, both professional engineers and accomplished musicians.
With over
sixty years of combined experience in music and sound recording production
and practice, we fully understand the performance, artistic and technical
requirements for capturing musical performances in the best possible light.
We record, produce and master fine classical music including orchestral and chamber
music, lieder and song, popular orchestral, solo recitals, children's music, folk and jazz.
We also produce classical recordings, can read scores competently and can offer artistic and musical advice to bring out the best performance. We are also experienced in dual system digital video and audio recording for audition and masterclass productions destined for DVD production and release. We have extensive audio and video post production facilities to make sure the final product is of the highest quality.
High quality room acoustics are essential to achieve a fine sound recording. Rather than recording in a studio, we prefer location recording in large venues with good natural acoustics. Brisbane and the Gold Coast have a number of fine halls for recording classical orchestral and chamber music, and Lodestar is well aquainted with recording in these venues.
Our experience is our most compelling asset. Look at the list of artists and concert series we have recorded and compare this to the competition. We have recorded hundreds of concerts, auditions and CD projects in many venues and have made significant advances in recording techniques and workflow efficiency as a result of this experience. You will benefit directly from all this experience. Most of our concert and radio production experience comes from work we do with 4MBS Classic FM in Brisbane. You will also see us at many concerts, where we are constantly revising our sonic references to live music.

We always use very high quality equipment for your precious recordings. As location specialists, our equipment is all professional grade, built to withstand travel stress and difficult electrical conditions at the venue. We do not use consumer grade devices anywhere in the recording chain. Absolute confidence in our recording signal chain means that, during sessions, we can concentrate on musical and artistic issues rather than getting bogged down in signal worries.
To do this we have had to make a considerable investment in the very top manufacturers of pro-audio equipment, such as Forssell, Nagra, Neumann, Schoeps, Bruel & Kjaer, Royer, TC Electronic and others.
As technology changes, we make sure we keep up to date, but do not just jump on the latest fad. We review new equipment very carefully, often testing it in concert conditions before making decisions about its final use or purchase.
